| The struggle for shaved ice was real |
So I guess you can call me Maria the Hero, since I practically saved a small portion of my Women and Leadership class from getting ran over on our way to get shaved ice. Yes, a short break turned out to be almost deadly on this fine Monday afternoon. But fear not, Maria was there to the rescue. With my powerful voice, I was able to scream "stop" just in time before this black sedan sped down the road at a whopping 30 mph. Sounds pretty epic right? It's what I do best.
The morning was pretty intense, like non-stop rain intense with a mixture of warm air. Seriously, it felt like you were taking a huge shower outside with your clothes on. It reminded me of the Bay Area, except that it was hot and humid and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Before we left Perkins, I didn't think that it was going to rain as hard as it actually did., but am I ever thankful for bringing Cynthia's umbrella, because that was our savior during the horrible walk for breakfast at the Vdub.
I would have to say that class was really fun today. In the first part of class we chose our groups and named a few leaders such as Ghandi, Michelle Obama, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Maya Angelou, and Malala Yousafzai. We then listed the traits or characteristics that each make them a good leader. Dean Almandrez then questioned why we didn't put our names on the list of leaders. It really got me thinking; you don't have to be famous to be a leader or fill in a leadership role. It made me wonder why I didn't put myself in that list of great leaders. The next part of class was my favorite; making life maps. It was a chance for each of us to express ourselves and show all the reasons why we are here in the Women and Leadership class. I listed the main events of my life including tearing my ACL and even getting rejected from the Vanderbilt interview. But I guess everything happens for a reason and I'm glad that it all worked out. I love my Women and Leadership class, along with 26 of the most amazing women that I have ever met.

Thankful for the rescue :) I am glad you learned that a leader does not have to be famous and that you are a leader :) I am also glad you are doing okay with the weather, it can be nice and hot and next thing you know rain shows up. I love seeing the silly pictures, enjoy this experience and the many friendships you are creating. You are missed in California :)
